Life Group Questions

1. If you could not hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Think back through some of the mothers mentioned in Scripture (cf. Genesis 3:20; Exodus 2:1-2; 1 Samuel 1; Luke 1:46-47; 2 Timothy 1:5). Describe some of the admirable qualities of these women?

3. What comes to mind when you think of Proverbs 31:10-31? What is the significance of this Scripture serving as the conclusion of the book of Proverbs? What significance is there with Ruth being the next book in the Hebrew Bible (cf. Ruth 3:11)?

4. How would you describe the character of the woman mentioned in this passage? Why is character so important anyway? Do you agree that few women meet the high standard of this Scripture? Why or why not? Is this standard feasible? Is it applicable to us today? Explain.

5. What are some things you consider to be precious and valuable? In what way and for what reason is a woman of excellent character more valuable than earthly treasures? How does the world value woman of excellent character?

6. How does this woman’s industrious nature and scope of activity mesh with our cultural Christianity and religion? Does our culture embrace this type of woman or the nature of her activities? Does it seem odd, considering the Old Testament context, that this woman is described as undertaking business ventures on behalf of the family? Explain.

7. Describe some of the godly women you’ve had the privilege of knowing? What stands out to you about them? What are some good traits that your mother possesses or possessed? How would you like to grow spiritually as a mother and woman of God?

8. Take time this week to encourage women in your life who provide a godly example for you. Maybe there are some women you can encourage to grow in their fear of God and godly character. Ask the Lord to help you be an excellent example for other women

9. What are some ways in which men can do better at recognizing, praising and encouraging godly women? How well has the church done in this area of encouragement? How can we do better?
