Life Group Questions

1. If you could not hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Have you ever thought about the purpose of singing? Why do people sing? What different emotions are involved with singing? What is significant about singing to the Lord?

3. Why do you think the Lord commands us to sing to Him (cf. Psalm 47:6)? Look at the following passages that involve songs or poems and describe their significance: Genesis 49; Exodus 15; Numbers 24; Deuteronomy 32-33; Luke 1.

4. Describe some of the key points about directing praise to the Lord in the following passages: Psalm 30:4; 57:9; 68:32; 84:2; 89:1; 92:1; 95:1; 96:1.

5. What does it mean that the Lord works on behalf of willing people (cf. Judges 5:2, 9)? Is our cooperation or willingness required for Him to accomplish His purposes? Why or why not? Does our unwillingness ever change God’s plans or hinder results? Explain. How does human willingness relate to God’s Sovereignty (cf. 2 Chronicles 7:14, 16:9; 2 Timothy 2:20)?

6. Describe what it means that God is great and awesome. In what way have you come to understand the greatness of God? Compare the following passages to your view of God’s greatness: Exodus 15:11; Psalm 114:7; Nahum 1:5; 1 Chronicles 16:25. In what way do you need to grow in praising God for His greatness?

7. What great deeds has God done in your life (cf. Psalm 77:14; 66:1-5; Isaiah 40:28-31)? How has He worked in mighty ways? Take time to thank the Lord for His mighty deeds and give praise to Him.
