Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Read Jeremiah 17:9-10. What does the Bible teach us about the condition of our hearts? Do you think this applies to all people? Why or why not? Is this condition applicable to Christians (cf. 2 Corinthians 3:18)?

3. What does it mean to know somebody’s heart? How does the Bible use the idea of the heart of mankind? To what extent does God know our hearts and how should that impact our lives (cf. Matthew 15:7-9; Psalm 139:1-5; Proverbs 21:1; 1 Samuel 16:7)?

4. What was the sin of Israel, according to our passage (cf. Hebrews 3:12; Numbers 20)? Why do you think the writer of Hebrews is so adamant about warning us Christians? Describe ways in which we are sometimes guilty of the same sins?

5. Does God become angry? Can we, as Christians who are his children, provoke God to anger? Explain your answer. What are some consequences for God’s children who disobey Him? Explain.

6. Jesus said that the greatest commandment was to love the Lord our God with all of our hearts. Is it really possible to fulfill this commandment and if so how? Describe somebody you know whose love for God inspires you to love God with all your heart?

7. Can we change our own hearts (cf. Jeremiah 17:23)? What promises has God made with regard to our hearts and how should this encourage us as Christians (cf. Jeremiah 31:31-34)?
