Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s service, consider going to the church website and listening to the sermon. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Do you think Christians can lose their salvation? Can our sin cause God to give up on us or forsake us? Can a Christian walk away from God? Explain.

3. Read the following passages and provide some observations about the assurance and security we have in Christ: Hebrews 6:9; 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18; Philippians 1:6; John 6:37; 10:27-30; Ephesians 1:13-14; 2:8-10; 4:30; Romans 8:37-39; 11:29.

4. How does the writer’s use of contrasting pronouns (e.g., we, us, they, and those) help us interpret this passage? What was the writer’s confidence about his audience as opposed to those mentioned in 6:4-8 (cf. Hebrews 6:9)?

5. Define repentance and explain its importance (cf. Luke 13:3). How is repentance involved with our salvation? Do Christians still need to repent of sin after they have been saved? Explain.

6. Explain how a person can be enlightened by God and still be lost in their sin (cf. John 1:9; Matthew 12:23; Mark 1:27; Luke 2:47). What does it mean that these individuals had tasted of the heavenly gift (cf. Hebrews 2:9; Matthew 27:34; John 8:51-52)?

7. What does it mean to taste of the goodness of the Word of God and the power to come (cf. Psalm 19:7-8; 2Tim 4:3-4)? Have you tasted of these things? If so, describe some of the goodness you’ve enjoyed from God’s Word and the events to come.

8. Do you know for certain that you are saved? Do you feel confident that you’ll be with Christ in heaven for all eternity? Do you ever struggle with these things? If so, consider talking to somebody at the church who can help you work through your struggles.
