Life Group Questions

1. If you could not hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Research the idea of total depravity using a bible dictionary. State your understanding of this concept. Do you agree that all people are by nature totally depraved? Why or why not?

3. Read the following passages and provide some thoughts or questions that come to mind: Romans 3:23; John 3:19; Mark 7:21-22; Ephesians 5:8.

4. Read Romans chapter seven. Do you think Paul was writing this section from the perspective of a redeemed or unredeemed person? In others words, are these statements about saved or lost people? Do you think Romans 7:18 applies to regenerate people? Why or why not?

5. Why was it wrong for Abimelech to try and become the peoples’ ruler? Do you think he was qualified for the position? Why or why not? What are some good traits leader’s should possess? What traits are most important to you in a leader?

6. What do the actions of Abimelech and his relatives demonstrate about the moral and ethical state of Israel during this period? How do their actions speak with regard to their relationship with God? How do the actions of our rulers/leaders and citizens speak with regard to their relationship with God?

7. Why do you think Jotham used a story to convey his message to the people (vvs. 8-15)? Why do you think the writer included this story? What main message should we get from the story?
