Life Group Questions

1. If you were not at this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Look at the beginning of several other New Testament epistles. What similarities and differences do you see with Hebrews and other books? Why do you think the writer of Hebrews opens the letter in this manner?

3. What are some indications within the book that show us how the writer and readers knew each other? What opinion did the writer have of the readers? You may want to consider the following passages: 3:1,12; 5:11-14; 6:9-12; 13:18-25; etc.

4. Why do you think the writer of Hebrews quotes so many Old Testament Scriptures? What does the writer’s use of the Old Testament tell us about its message concerning Christ?

5. Look through the book of Hebrews and state at least five ways in which Christ is supreme. What are some ways in which the writer shows us that Christ is better or superior? Describe what the supremacy of Christ means.

6. What does it mean to draw near to God (cf. Hebrews 4:16)? How do we go about drawing near to God? Would you say you are near to God? Why or why not?

7. There are several challenges presented in the book of Hebrews. Do you think that as Christians we are “obligated” to serve the Lord? If so, list at least five reasons as to why we are obligated to serving God. Pray and ask God to help you grow in your commitment to serving Him.

8. Read Hebrews 10:19-25. List at least three ways in which Christians should respond to the work of Christ. Why is meeting together with other Christians so important? What are some things we should do when we meet together with other believers?
