Life Group Questions

1. If you could not hear this week’s sermon, consider going to the church website and listening to it. What main ideas did you gain from the message? Do you have any questions?

2. Read Matthew 21:1-17 and note three observations. Why do you think Matthew’s account sites so many Old Testament Scriptures? Describe the reaction of the chief priests and scribes when they saw the wonderful works of Christ. Why do you think they responded this way?

3. Mark 11:1-11 provides another account of the Triumphal Entry. What differences do you see in Mark’s account? Do these differences cause you to question the accuracy of God’s Word? What explanations can you provide for these differences?

4. Read Luke 19:28-46 and note two observations. What did Jesus mean when He said the stones would cry out (cf. vs. 40)? Why did Jesus weep over the city? What does it mean that things were “hidden” from the eyes of certain people? Who hid these things and why (cf. Matthew 13:10-15).

5. How does John’s account of the Triumphal Entry (cf. 12:12-19) differ from that of Matthew’s, Mark’s and Luke’s? Why didn’t the disciples understand these things about Christ?

6. List some ways in which the disciples possibly struggled with trusting and obeying Jesus’ commands. What did the disciples find to be true about Jesus’ predictions? What did the disciples experience as a result of their obedience to Christ? What are some challenging ways in which the Lord is calling you to obey Him? Are you willing to obey God?

7. Why do you think all four Gospel accounts record the Triumphal Entry of Jesus? What makes this event so important? What does this event tell us about the person of Christ? How should this story encourage us as Christians?

8. Zechariah 9:9-10 provides clear prophecy about the coming King. What are some distinguishing characteristics about this King who was to come? How does this King in Zechariah relate to the Ruler described in Genesis 49:8-12?

9. What does it mean that Jesus is righteous (cf. Jeremiah 23:5; 1 John 2:1)? Why is our salvation necessary and how do we acquire it? Do you believe Jesus is able to provide peace greater than any circumstance we face? Describe a time when you sensed the peace of God.
